If you've come to look at photography in particular, please have a look at the Virtograph site below, as well as the Photo Gallery. I'm currently using many advanced techniques combining high dynamic range imaging (HDR) with panoramic photography for the Keller-Williams real estate agency, and the most recent example can be found in these photos of a horse farm (click). It may not be noticeable at first, but you are able to see detail in the shadows and highlights that would usually be obscured in a normal photograph. This makes such a photograph appear more like a painting, where every detail is present. This requires making multiple photographs of a scene, sometimes more than 70 photographs for a full 360° panorama, and then combining them into one nearly-perfect photograph. It's a lot of work, but as you can see, the results are worth it.
